REVIEW JOURNAL DIGITAL NEWS GRAPHICS PACKAGE
The Brief: We are launching a new digital online news programming. This is a whole new department created for RJ. We will be building a control room & studio news set as well, you will be working with set design company. Since this is not TV broadcast we are open to duration of animations. Research “Best Practices” for digital news from national newspapers that have added videos to their websites. The package should reflect the RJ recent rebrand. Visual assets & new song audio file will be provided.


CONCEPT 1: AT THE SPEED OF LIFE

To complement the new logo and song “At The Speed of Life”, Concept 1 emphasizes high energy movement building excitement for the viewer. Bold typography expresses confidence in the newspapers rich history. Displaying “1909” gives a salute to the newspaper’s 100+ years of covering Las Vegas news. Strong angles of disruptive solid colors matches the Rockwell font in the new logo. Half tone inks and pixel elements signifies unity of the newspaper and digital teams as one trustworthy, credible source under the Review-Journal brand. Based off research viewer’s behavior prefer animated opens are quick and to the point. Unlike TV News, viewers are on the go and want to get to the video they clicked on. Viewers that watch multiple videos grow tired of having to watch long graphic opens in a mobile or desktop setting and sometimes will even loose enough interest that they stop watching.

CONCEPT 2: MODERN NEWS EXPERIENCE

The way we experience our news information has changed drastically over the years. Apps account for 89% of mobile media time spent on devices. Inspired by the branded backgrounds provided of intersecting lines reminded me of power grid lines. A visual representation of connectivity you want to have with your viewers providing instant information globally. A clean sophisticated bold look that uses the RJ app icon as the hero graphic icon front and center. Based off research viewer’s behavior prefer animated opens are quick and to the point. CONCEPT 3: RICH IN HISTORY

RJ is a long standing News authority that has been covering Las Vegas News since it‘s early days. RJ retaining the position at the forefront as our community’s News leader, not just in newsprint form , but competing for viewers with TV media outlets. Concept 3 influenced by TV broadcast news design sets that are glossy and sleek. Layers of heavy stylized body copy reminiscent of newspapers text column layouts. Introduced thin outline graphic interpretation of RJ’s campus aerial view & a glossy 3d logo carries reflections of our brightly lit cityscape. Photos from all around Las Vegas faintly can be seen in the backgrounds for added depth. Based off research viewer’s behavior prefer animated opens are quick and to the point.
